Adding a Tab in SolidWorks
In SolidWorks, tabs are incredibly useful for organizing and managing your workspace efficiently. Tabs provide a convenient way to access different documents and applications within the software. In this tutorial, we will learn how to add a tab in SolidWorks using simple steps.
Step 1: Launching SolidWorks
To begin, open SolidWorks by double-clicking on the desktop icon or searching for it in your applications folder. Once the software is launched, you will be greeted with the SolidWorks interface.
Step 2: Accessing the “View” Menu
Navigate to the top menu bar and locate the “View” tab. Click on it to reveal a drop-down menu with various options related to viewing and organizing your workspace.

Right-click on the desired tab you wish to rename and select “Rename” from the context menu that appears. Type in your preferred name and press Enter or click outside of the text box to save your changes.

Alternatively, you can also double-click on the tab name to enter edit mode directly. Type in the desired name and press Enter or click outside the text box to save.
Closing Tabs
As you work on different documents, it’s important to know how to close unnecessary tabs to declutter your workspace.
Method 1:
To close a tab, simply click on the “x” icon located on the right side of the tab you wish to close. This will remove the tab along with its associated document from your workspace.
Method 2:
Another way to close a tab is by right-clicking on it and selecting “Close” from the context menu that appears. This will also remove the tab and its corresponding document.
Tips for Efficient Tab Management
- Use descriptive names for your tabs, as it helps in quickly identifying and locating specific documents.
- Organize related documents or projects by grouping them together in separate tabs.
- If you accidentally close a tab, don’t worry! You can always reopen it by going to the “Window” menu and selecting the document from the list.
