Where Is Add Display State SolidWorks?
If you are new to SolidWorks or have been using it for some time, you may have come across the need to add display states to your models. Display states allow you to create different appearances for your parts and assemblies, making it easier to visualize and present your designs. In this tutorial, we will explore where to find the “Add Display State” feature in SolidWorks.
Step 1: Opening the Model
Before we can add a display state, we need to open a model in SolidWorks. Launch SolidWorks and open the desired part or assembly file by navigating to File > Open. Select the file from the file browser and click on Open.
Step 2: Accessing the Display Manager
Once the model is open, we need to access the Display Manager, where we can manage display states. To do this, go to the View menu at the top of the SolidWorks window and select Display Manager. A new panel will appear on the left side of your screen.
Note:
If you don’t see the Display Manager panel, you can enable it by going to View > Windows > Display Manager.
Step 3: Adding a Display State
In the Display Manager panel, locate and expand the Display States section. Right-click on it and select Add New Display State... A dialog box will appear with options for creating a new display state.
Note:
You can also access this option by right-clicking on an existing display state and selecting Add Display State.
Step 4: Configuring the Display State
In the Add Display State dialog box, you can configure various settings for the new display state. Give it a meaningful name that describes its purpose or appearance. You can also choose to inherit properties from an existing display state or start with a blank slate.
- State Name: Enter a descriptive name for the display state.
- Inherit from: Select an existing display state to inherit properties from.
- Based on: Choose whether to start with a blank slate or copy appearances from another configuration.
Once you have configured the settings, click on OK to create the new display state. It will now appear in the Display Manager panel.
Step 5: Editing and Applying Display States
To edit a display state, double-click on its name in the Display Manager panel. This will open the Appearances and Properties dialog box where you can modify its appearance properties such as color, texture, transparency, and more.
To apply a display state to your model, simply click on its name in the Display Manager panel. The model will update accordingly to reflect the chosen appearance. You can switch between different display states by clicking on their respective names.
Note:
You can also right-click on a display state and select options such as Edit Properties, Delete, or Create Drawing View.
