How Do I Get Rid of the Blue Background in SketchUp?

If you are a SketchUp user, you may have encountered the issue of a blue background appearing in your workspace. This blue background can sometimes be distracting and make it difficult to focus on your model. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to get rid of the blue background in SketchUp.

Step 1: Access the Styles Window

To remove the blue background in SketchUp, you need to access the Styles window. You can do this by going to the “Window” menu at the top of the screen and selecting “Styles”. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + Shift + S” (or “Command + Shift + S” for Mac users).

Step 2: Edit the Default Style

Once you have opened the Styles window, you will see a list of different styles on the left-hand side. The style that is currently active will be highlighted.

In most cases, this style is called “Default Style”. To edit this style and remove the blue background, simply double-click on it.

Step 3: Adjust Background Settings

When you double-click on the Default Style, a new window will open with various options for editing its properties. Look for an option called “Background”.

By default, this option is set to a solid color (usually blue). To remove the blue background, click on the color swatch next to “Background” and select either white or transparent.

Note:

  • If you choose white: Your SketchUp workspace will have a white background.
  • If you choose transparent: Your SketchUp workspace will have no background at all, allowing you to see through to any other applications or windows you may have open.

Step 4: Apply the Changes

After adjusting the background settings to your preference, click the “OK” button to apply the changes. You will notice that the blue background in SketchUp has now been replaced with either a white background or a transparent background, depending on your selection.

Troubleshooting:

If you don’t see an immediate change after applying the new background settings, make sure that you have deselected any objects or entities in your model. Sometimes, selected objects can override the style settings and maintain their own individual backgrounds.

Congratulations! You have successfully gotten rid of the blue background in SketchUp. Now you can work on your models without any distractions and focus solely on bringing your designs to life!
