In this tutorial, we will learn how to add a forming tool in SolidWorks Design Library. Forming tools are essential for creating complex shapes and features in your designs. By utilizing the Design Library, you can easily access and use pre-defined forming tools, saving you time and effort in the design process.
Step 1: Accessing the Design Library
To start, open SolidWorks and navigate to the Task Pane on the right side of the screen. If the Task Pane is not visible, go to View > Task Pane to enable it. Within the Task Pane, click on the Design Library tab.
Step 2: Locating Forming Tools
Once you have opened the Design Library tab, expand the SolidWorks Content folder by clicking on the small arrow next to it. Then expand Features, followed by Form Tools. Here you will find a collection of pre-defined forming tools that you can use in your designs.
If you don’t see the Form Tools folder within Features, it means that this feature has not been installed on your system. In this case, you will need to install it using SolidWorks Installation Manager.
Step 3: Adding a Forming Tool
To add a forming tool from the Design Library to your design, simply drag and drop it onto your desired face or sketch plane within the main graphics area. You can also right-click on a forming tool and select Add to Library Feature, which allows you to use that specific tool again in future designs without having to search for it in the Design Library.
Before dragging and dropping a forming tool, make sure you have an open sketch or a face selected in the graphics area. SolidWorks will automatically recognize the suitable areas where the forming tool can be applied.
Step 4: Modifying Forming Tool Parameters
After adding a forming tool, you can modify its parameters to suit your specific design requirements. To do this, simply right-click on the forming tool in the FeatureManager Design Tree, select Edit Feature, and adjust the necessary dimensions or properties in the PropertyManager.
Step 5: Saving Custom Forming Tools
If you have created a custom forming tool that you would like to reuse in future designs, you can save it to your Design Library for easy access. To do this, right-click on the forming tool in the FeatureManager Design Tree and select Save As Form Tool. Choose a suitable location within your Design Library and click Save.
The SolidWorks Design Library is a valuable resource for accessing and utilizing pre-defined forming tools. By following these steps, you can easily add and modify forming tools to enhance your design process. Remember to experiment with different tools and techniques to achieve your desired results efficiently.
