Are you tired of losing your progress in SketchUp because it didn’t autosave? Don’t worry, you can easily change the autosave settings in SketchUp to ensure that your hard work is always protected. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of changing your autosave settings in SketchUp.
Step 1: Opening the Preferences Window
The first step is to open the preferences window. To do this, click on the Window menu at the top of the SketchUp interface and then select Preferences. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + , (comma).
Step 2: Navigating to the Autosave Settings
Once the preferences window is open, locate and click on the General tab on the left-hand side of the window. This will display various general settings for SketchUp.
To access the autosave settings, click on “Autosave”, which is usually located near the bottom of the list.
Step 3: Adjusting Autosave Interval
In this section, you can customize how often SketchUp automatically saves your work. The default interval is set to 5 minutes, but you can increase or decrease this value based on your preferences.
To change the autosave interval, click on the dropdown menu next to “Save every”.
Here you will find a list of preset time intervals ranging from 1 minute to 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can manually enter a specific value by selecting “Other..”.
Tips:
- Save every 1 minute: If you’re working on a complex project or experiencing frequent crashes, setting a 1-minute interval can help minimize potential data loss.
- Save every 10 minutes: If you have a stable system and want to strike a balance between saving frequently and minimizing interruptions, this is a good option.
- Save every 60 minutes: If you’re confident in the stability of your system and prefer fewer interruptions, setting an hourly interval may be suitable.
Step 4: Choosing Autosave Location
In addition to adjusting the autosave interval, you can also choose where SketchUp saves your autosave files. By default, SketchUp saves autosave files in a specific folder on your computer. However, if you prefer to save them in a different location, click on the “Choose.” button next to “Model Auto-save Location”.
Step 5: Saving Changes
Once you have customized the autosave settings according to your preferences, click on the “OK” button at the bottom of the preferences window. This will save your changes and close the preferences window.
Note:
If you accidentally close SketchUp without saving your work manually, don’t worry! When you reopen SketchUp, it will automatically prompt you to open any autosaved files that were created since your last manual save.
Congratulations! You have successfully changed your autosave settings in SketchUp.
Now you can work with peace of mind knowing that your progress will be automatically saved at regular intervals. Happy designing!
