How Do I Change My DNS Settings in Webflow?

Changing DNS settings in Webflow is a simple process that allows you to control how your domain name is connected to your website. By changing your DNS settings, you can ensure that visitors reach the correct destination when they enter your domain name into their web browser. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps of changing your DNS settings in Webflow.

Step 1: Accessing Your Webflow Dashboard
To begin, log in to your Webflow account and navigate to your project’s dashboard. This is where you can manage various aspects of your website, including DNS settings.

Step 2: Selecting Your Project
If you have multiple projects in Webflow, make sure to select the project for which you want to change the DNS settings. Click on the project name or thumbnail to access its specific settings.

Step 3: Navigating to Domain Settings
Once you are on the project dashboard, locate and click on the “Project Settings” tab. This will open a dropdown menu with several options. Choose “Hosting.”

Step 4: Accessing Domain Settings
In the Hosting section, scroll down until you find the “Custom Domain” area. Here, click on the “Domains” tab to access your domain settings.

Note:
If you haven’t connected a custom domain name yet, refer to our tutorial on connecting a custom domain in Webflow before proceeding with this tutorial.

Step 5: Viewing Your DNS Settings
Under the “Domains” tab, you will see a list of all the domains connected to your website. Find the domain for which you want to change DNS settings and click on it.

  • A Record: The A record is used to connect a specific subdomain (e.g., www) or root domain (e., yourdomain.com) to an IP address. To change the A record, click on the pencil icon next to it.
  • CNAME Record: The CNAME record is used to create an alias for a subdomain (e., blog.yourdomain.com) that points to another domain name.

To change the CNAME record, click on the pencil icon next to it.

  • SSL: If you have SSL enabled for your domain, you will see an SSL section with options to enable or disable SSL on your website.

Step 6: Changing DNS Settings
After clicking on the pencil icon next to the DNS record you want to modify, a pop-up window will appear. In this window, you can edit the value of the DNS record.

For A Records:

To change the IP address associated with a specific subdomain or root domain:

  1. Enter the new IP address in the “Value” field.
  2. If you want to redirect all subdomains of your domain to this IP address, check the “Redirect all subdomains” option.
  3. Click “Save” to save your changes.

For CNAME Records:

To change the alias for a subdomain:

  1. Enter the new domain name in the “Value” field.

Note: Changes made to DNS settings may take some time to propagate. It is normal for it to take up to 24 hours for these changes to take effect.

Step 7: Verifying Your Changes
Once you have made your desired changes, it’s important to verify that the DNS settings have been updated successfully. You can use online DNS lookup tools or wait for the changes to propagate and test your domain in a web browser.

Congratulations! You have successfully changed your DNS settings in Webflow.

By understanding and utilizing the DNS settings, you have full control over how your domain name connects to your website. Remember to double-check your changes and allow time for propagation. Happy website managing!
