How Do I Change the Default Scale List in AutoCAD?

Are you tired of using the same default scale list in AutoCAD? Do you want to customize it to better suit your needs? Look no further, as in this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of changing the default scale list in AutoCAD.

Step 1: Accessing the Options Menu

To begin, open AutoCAD and click on the “File” tab located at the top left corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu, select “Options”.

Step 2: Modifying the Default Scale List

Once you are in the Options menu, a new window will appear. Look for the “User Preferences” section on the left-hand side and click on it. Then, click on “Drafting & Annotation”.

In this section, locate and click on “Linetype and Scale List Overrides”. Here, you will find two tabs: “Linetype Overrides” and “Scale List Overrides”. Click on the latter tab to proceed.

Step 3: Adding a New Scale

In the Scale List Overrides tab, you will see a list of scales that are currently available in your AutoCAD software. To add a new scale to this list, click on “Add..”.

Step 4: Configuring the New Scale

A new window titled “Add/Edit Named Scale” will pop up. In this window, you can specify a name for your custom scale under “Name”. For example, if you want to add a 1:100 scale, you can name it “1:100”.

Next, under “Scale”, you can enter the desired scale value. In our example, we would enter “1:100”.

If you wish to assign a specific linetype to this scale, you can do so by selecting it from the “Linetype” drop-down menu.

Step 5: Saving the Changes

Once you have configured the new scale according to your preferences, click on “OK” to save your changes and close the “Add/Edit Named Scale” window.

You will now see the newly added scale in the Scale List Overrides tab. To make it the default scale for future drawings, select it from the list and click on “Set Current”.

Step 6: Applying the Custom Scale

To apply your custom scale to a drawing, simply open a new or existing file in AutoCAD. Click on the “Layout” tab and select a viewport where you want to apply the custom scale.

In the Properties palette, locate the “Standard Scale” option and click on it. From the drop-down menu that appears, select your newly added custom scale.

Congratulations!

You have successfully changed the default scale list in AutoCAD. Now you can create drawings with scales that are tailored to your specific requirements.
