How Do I Create a Centermark in AutoCAD?

Creating a centermark in AutoCAD can be a useful tool when working on technical drawings or designs. It allows you to easily identify the center of an object or feature, making it easier to align and measure accurately. In this tutorial, we will learn how to create a centermark in AutoCAD using simple steps.

Step 1: Activate the Centermark Tool

To start creating a centermark, you need to activate the Centermark tool in AutoCAD. There are two ways to do this:

  • Method 1: From the ribbon menu at the top, go to the “Annotate” tab and click on the “Center Mark” tool in the “Dimensions” panel.
  • Method 2: You can also type “CENTERMARK” in the command line and press Enter.

Step 2: Select an Object

Once you have activated the Centermark tool, AutoCAD will prompt you to select an object. This object could be a circle, arc, or any other closed shape that you want to mark its center. Follow these steps:

  1. Selecting a Circle:
    • Type “C” for Circle and press Enter.
    • Select the desired circle by clicking on its circumference.
    • The centermark will automatically appear at the center of the selected circle.
  2. Selecting an Arc:
    • Type “ARC” and press Enter.
    • Select one of the endpoints of the arc.
    • Select another endpoint of the arc.
    • Select a point on the arc to specify its length or angle.
    • The centermark will be displayed at the center of the selected arc.
  3. Selecting Other Closed Shapes:
    • Type “CENTERMARK” and press Enter.
    • Select the closed shape by clicking on its boundary.
    • The centermark will appear at the centroid of the selected shape.

Step 3: Modify Centermark Properties (Optional)

AutoCAD allows you to modify the properties of a centermark according to your preferences. To modify these properties, follow these steps:

  1. Changing Centermark Size:
    • Type “CENERSIZE” in the command line and press Enter.
    • Specify a new size for the centermark by entering a numeric value and pressing Enter.
  2. Changing Centermark Style:
    • Type “CENSTYLE” in the command line and press Enter.
    • Select a new style from the list of available styles and press Enter.
