Step 1: Select the Tape Measure Tool

To create a guideline, click on any point in your model where you want to establish a reference line. This point can be on an existing object or in empty space.
Step 3: Drag and Position the Guideline

If you want to create a guideline with a specific length, simply type its measurement while dragging. For example, if you want a guideline that is exactly 10 feet long, type “10′” (without quotes) after clicking on the starting point. SketchUp will automatically adjust the length of the guideline accordingly.
Step 5: Release Mouse Button
When you are satisfied with the position and length of your guideline, release the mouse button. The guideline will now be fixed in place.

- Guidelines are not objects: It’s important to understand that guidelines are not physical entities within your model. They only serve as visual aids to assist you in aligning and positioning objects accurately.
- Intersecting guidelines: You can create multiple guidelines that intersect each other.
This allows you to establish precise intersections and reference points for your model.
- Deleting guidelines: To remove a guideline, simply select the Erase tool and click on the guideline you want to delete. Alternatively, you can also right-click on the guideline and choose “Delete” from the context menu.
