If you’re working with AutoCAD, you know how important it is to have a well-organized and efficient menu. The menu in AutoCAD allows you to access various commands and tools easily.
But what if you need to make changes to your menu? In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps on how to edit a menu in AutoCAD.
Step 1: Accessing the Menu Editor
To start editing your menu in AutoCAD, go to the Manage tab at the top of the screen.
Next, click on the Customization panel and select Menu Editor.
Step 2: Choosing a Menu to Edit
The Menu Editor will open, displaying a list of available menus. To edit a specific menu, select it from the list.
If you want to create a new custom menu, click on the New Menu button and give it a name.
Step 3: Adding or Removing Commands
In the Menu Editor window, you can add or remove commands from your chosen menu.
To add a command, click on the Add Command button. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to search for and select the desired command. Once selected, click Add.
To remove a command from your menu, select it from the list on the right side of the window and click on the Delete Command button.
Note:
- You can also rearrange commands by selecting them and using the up and down arrows.
- If you want to group commands together within submenus, click Add Submenu and give it a name. Then, add commands to the submenu as described above.
Step 4: Modifying Command Properties
AutoCAD allows you to modify the properties of each command in your menu. To do this, select a command from the list on the right side of the window and click on the Properties button.
In the Properties dialog box, you can change the display name, macro, description, and other settings related to the selected command. Make the necessary modifications and click OK.
Step 5: Saving Your Changes
Once you’re done editing your menu, click on the Save Menu button in the Menu Editor window.
If you created a new custom menu, you’ll be prompted to save it with a unique name.
Note:
- By default, AutoCAD saves custom menus with a “.mnu” file extension.
- If you want your changes to be applied every time AutoCAD starts up, go to the Customization panel under the Manage tab and select CUI (Customize User Interface). In the CUI window, navigate to your custom menu and check the box next to “Load” under “Partial Customization Files”.
Congratulations! You now know how to edit a menu in AutoCAD.
Whether you need to add new commands or customize existing ones, AutoCAD provides an intuitive interface for menu customization. Remember to save your changes and consider loading your custom menu on startup for convenience.
