Step 1: Accessing the Default Tray
To begin, open SketchUp on your computer. Once the application is launched, you will notice that the default tray is missing from the workspace. However, don’t panic as we can easily retrieve it.

- Bold Text: The trays marked in bold are currently visible in your workspace.
- Underlined Text: The underlined trays are minimized and hidden from view but can be expanded when needed.
- Trays without any formatting are currently not visible in your workspace.
To add a tray, simply click on the respective tray name. It will instantly appear in your workspace. Similarly, to remove a tray, click on the tray name again, and it will disappear from your workspace.
Organize the trays according to your workflow and requirements. You can rearrange their positions by clicking and dragging them within the panel.
Model Behavior
If you switch to the “In Model” tab, you will find options related to how trays behave when working with different SketchUp models.
- Bold Text: The model-specific trays marked in bold are currently active for the current model.
- Underlined Text: The underlined model-specific trays are set as active but can be deactivated if desired.
- Trays without any formatting are not active for the current model.
You can activate or deactivate model-specific trays by clicking on their respective names. This allows you to customize the default tray behavior based on individual models.
Step 3: Saving Changes and Exiting
Once you have configured your default tray settings according to your preferences, it’s time to save the changes and exit the settings panel.
To save the changes, simply click on the “Close” button located at the bottom right corner of the default tray settings panel. Your new default tray configuration will be applied immediately.
