If you have a GoDaddy domain and you want to connect it to your Webflow website, you’ve come to the right place! With just a few simple steps, you’ll be able to link your GoDaddy domain to your Webflow site and start sharing your awesome content with the world. So let’s get started!
Step 1: Accessing Your GoDaddy Account
The first thing you need to do is log in to your GoDaddy account. Once you’re logged in, navigate to the “Domains” section of your account.
Step 2: Finding Your Domain Settings
Locate the domain that you want to connect with Webflow and click on it. This will take you to the domain settings page.
Step 2.1: DNS Management
Scroll down until you find the “DNS Management” section. This is where we’ll be making changes to connect your GoDaddy domain with Webflow.
Step 3: Adding Webflow DNS Records
In order for your GoDaddy domain to point towards your Webflow website, we need to add some DNS records. These records will tell GoDaddy where your website is hosted.
Step 3.1: A Record
The first record we’ll add is an A record. This record ensures that when someone enters your domain name into their browser, it points them towards the correct IP address of your Webflow site.
- Click on the “Add” button under “A” in the DNS Management section.
- In the “Host” field, enter “@” (without quotes). This represents the root or main domain name.
- In the “Points to” field, enter the IP address provided by Webflow.
- Set the “TTL” (Time to Live) to the default value or choose a specific value based on your preference.
- Click on “Save” to add the A record.
Step 3.2: CNAME Record
The second record we’ll add is a CNAME record. This record ensures that your domain’s www subdomain also points towards your Webflow site. It helps with redirecting visitors who type “www.yourdomain.com” into their browser.
- Click on the “Add” button under “CNAME” in the DNS Management section.
- In the “Host” field, enter “www” (without quotes). This represents your subdomain.
- In the “Points to” field, enter the value provided by Webflow.
- Click on “Save” to add the CNAME record.
Step 4: Verifying DNS Changes
Once you’ve added both records, you need to wait for them to propagate. This process can take up to 48 hours, although it usually happens much faster. During this time, it’s essential not to make any changes or updates until your DNS changes have fully propagated across all servers worldwide.
Step 5: Connecting Your Domain in Webflow
Now that you’ve added the necessary DNS records in GoDaddy, it’s time to connect your domain in Webflow.
Step 5.1: Project Settings
Login to your Webflow account and go to the project settings for the website you want to connect your GoDaddy domain to.2: Custom Domain
In the project settings, scroll down until you find the “Custom Domain” section. Enter your domain name (e.g., www.com) and click on “Save Changes.”
Step 6: Patience is Key
After saving the changes, it may take some time for the domain to propagate across all servers. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work immediately; be patient and give it some time.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully linked your GoDaddy domain to Webflow!
Now you can enjoy the benefits of having a custom domain for your Webflow website. Happy designing!
