In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of listing components in SketchUp. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Selecting Components
Before we can list components in SketchUp, we need to select the desired components. To do this:
-
Open SketchUp on your computer.
-
Create a new project or open an existing one that contains the components you want to list.
-
In the Components panel, which is usually located on the right side of the screen, browse through the available categories and find the desired components.
-
To select a component, simply click on it. If you want to select multiple components, hold down the Shift key while clicking on each component.
Step 2: Creating a List of Components
Now that we have selected our components, it’s time to create a list. Follow these steps:
-
In the top menu bar, click on Edit.
-
A drop-down menu will appear. Click on Select All Instances.
-
All selected instances will now be highlighted in your project.
-
In the top menu bar again, click on Edit.
-
Select Create Group. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + G (Windows) or Command + G (Mac).
-
A new group will be created containing all the selected components.
Step 3: Naming the Component List
To make your component list more organized, it’s a good practice to give it a meaningful name. Here’s how:
-
With the newly created group selected, right-click on it.
-
A context menu will appear. Choose Rename.
-
Type in a suitable name for your component list and press Enter or click outside the field to confirm.
Step 4: Accessing the Component List
Now that you have successfully listed your components, you can easily access the list whenever needed. Here’s how:
-
In the Components panel, click on the folder icon located at the top-left corner.
-
A drop-down menu will appear showing all your component lists.
-
Select the desired list by clicking on its name.
-
The components within that list will now be displayed in the Components panel for easy access and insertion into your project.
