Designing with Figma is a great way to produce efficient, modern user interfaces. While it offers a range of powerful tools for creating complex designs, it can also be difficult to manage components, especially when you want to permanently delete them. Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure that your components are removed from Figma permanently.
Understanding Components
In order to correctly delete components in Figma, you must first understand what they are. Components are reusable elements that are stored in the ‘Components’ tab of the side panel.
They can be used several times throughout your project and are extremely helpful for quickly creating complex designs. Each component is composed of frames and layers which can be edited individually.
Deleting Unused Components
The first step to deleting components in Figma is to identify any unused components that may exist in your project. To do this, open the ‘Components’ tab and select the ‘Unused’ option at the top of the window. This will display all of the unused components within your project and allow you to quickly delete them by selecting each one and pressing the ‘Delete’ key on your keyboard.
Deleting Used Components
When deleting used components in Figma, it’s important to remember that these elements will still exist even after you delete them from the main view. To properly delete a used component, first select it from the side panel and then press the ‘Delete’ button on your keyboard or right-click on it and select ‘Delete’. This will remove all instances of that component from your project but not completely delete it.
Replacing Components
When replacing components in Figma, it’s important to note that any changes made to a replaced component will not be reflected in previous instances of that same component throughout your project. To replace a component, simply select an existing instance of it from within your design and then drag-and-drop a new version into its place.
Permanently Deleting Components
Finally, if you want to completely remove a component from Figma permanently, then head back over to the ‘Components’ tab in the side panel and select ‘Manage’. From here you can find any deleted components located at the bottom of this window with an option next to each one titled ‘Remove’. Select this option next to each deleted component that you wish to permanently remove.
