How Do I Plot a Layout in AutoCAD?

Are you new to AutoCAD and wondering how to plot a layout? Look no further! In this tutorial, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of plotting a layout in AutoCAD.

Step 1: Set up your drawing

Before you can plot a layout, you need to make sure your drawing is set up properly. Start by opening your drawing in AutoCAD and go to the Layout tab.

Step 2: Create a new layout

To create a new layout, right-click on the Layouts tab and select New Layout. Give your layout a name and choose its size.

Tip:

If you’re unsure about the size of your layout, you can always select a pre-defined template from the Page Setup Manager.

Step 3: Set up your page

Now it’s time to set up your page. To do this, go to the Page Setup Manager. Here, you can define various elements such as paper size, orientation, and plot scale.

Note:

If you want to use a different page setup for each layout, make sure to check the “Apply to Layout” option.

Step 4: Add viewports

A viewport is an area on your layout where you can display different views of your drawing. To add viewports, use the MVIEW command or simply click on the Add Viewport button on the toolbar.

  • Tip:

You can have multiple viewports on a layout, allowing you to display different parts of your drawing simultaneously.

Step 5: Arrange your viewports

Once you’ve added your viewports, you can arrange them as per your requirement. To do this, select a viewport and use the MVIEW command or simply drag the edges of the viewport to resize it.

Note:

You can also use the MVIEW command to pan and zoom within a viewport.

Step 6: Customize your layout

To further customize your layout, you can add various elements such as a title block, company logo, or additional text. These elements can be added using AutoCAD’s text and block insertion commands.

  • Note:

Make sure to lock any elements that you don’t want to move accidentally by using the LAYER command.

Step 7: Plot your layout

Now that everything is set up and customized, it’s time to plot your layout. To do this, go to the Plot tab and click on Plot.

Choose your desired printer/plotter, paper size, plot style table (optional), and other settings. Finally, click on OK.

  • Note:

If you want to preview your plot before printing, you can click on the Preview button instead.

Congratulations! You have successfully plotted a layout in AutoCAD.

With these simple steps, you can now create professional-looking plots of your drawings. Happy plotting!
