Reference Manager is a powerful tool in AutoCAD that allows you to manage and organize external references (Xrefs) in your drawings. Xrefs are external files, such as other CAD drawings or images, that are linked to your main drawing. By using Reference Manager, you can easily attach, detach, reload, and bind these Xrefs, making it easier to work with complex projects.

Attaching Xrefs using Reference Manager

To attach an Xref using Reference Manager, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Open the drawing in AutoCAD where you want to attach the Xref.
  • Step 2: Go to the Insert tab on the ribbon and click on the Xref panel.
  • Step 3: Click on the “Attach” button to open Reference Manager.
  • Step 4: In Reference Manager, click on the “Add..” button and browse for the file you want to attach as an Xref.
  • Step 5: Select the file and click on the “Open” button. You can also use the checkboxes to specify options like scaling or rotation.

Loading and Unloading Xrefs with Reference Manager

Here’s how to load and unload Xrefs:

  • Loading Xrefs:
    • In Reference Manager, select the Xref you want to load.

    • The Xref will now be loaded and visible in your drawing.
  • Unloading Xrefs:
    • In Reference Manager, select the Xref you want to unload.
    • Click on the “Unload” button in the toolbar.
    • The Xref will be unloaded and not visible in your drawing. However, it is still attached and can be loaded again if needed.

Reloading and Detaching Xrefs using Reference Manager

If you have made changes to an external reference file, you can use Reference Manager to reload those changes into your drawing. Additionally, if you no longer need an Xref in your drawing, you can detach it using Reference Manager.
