Creating a pyramid in Sketchup is a simple and fun task that can be accomplished with just a few easy steps. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating a pyramid using Sketchup’s powerful 3D modeling capabilities.
Step 1: Launching Sketchup
If you haven’t already, start by launching Sketchup on your computer. Once the program is open, you will be greeted with a blank workspace ready for your creative ideas.
Step 2: Drawing the Base
To create our pyramid, we first need to draw its base. We’ll start by using the Rectangle tool to draw a square-shaped base. To do this:
1. Select the Rectangle tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen.
2. Click once anywhere in the workspace to set the starting point of your rectangle.

Drag your mouse cursor and click again to set the endpoint of your rectangle. Make sure to hold down the Shift key while dragging to ensure that your shape remains perfectly square.
4. Release your mouse button to complete drawing the base of your pyramid.
Step 3: Creating Height
Now that we have our base, it’s time to give our pyramid some height. Select the Push/Pull tool from the toolbar or press “P” on your keyboard to activate it. Click once on one of the faces of your base square.
Note: Sketchup automatically recognizes which face you clicked based on its orientation.
Drag your mouse cursor upwards to extrude the face and create the height of your pyramid. You can enter a specific height value in the measurement box at the bottom right corner of the screen if you want precise control over the height. Release your mouse button to complete the extrusion.
Step 4: Adding a Pointed Top
A pyramid isn’t complete without its pointed top. To add this feature:
1. Select the Line tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Click once on one of the top edges of your pyramid’s base square.
Click again on another top edge to draw a diagonal line across the face of your pyramid.
Note: Holding down Shift while drawing will help you create a perfectly straight line. Select both edges by clicking and dragging a selection box around them, or by holding down Shift and clicking each edge individually.
5. Delete these edges by pressing Delete or Backspace on your keyboard, leaving you with a triangular face at the top of your pyramid.
