How Do You Save a View in SolidWorks?

Have you ever created a complex view in SolidWorks and wanted to save it for future reference? Saving a view is a convenient way to store and recall specific configurations of your model. In this tutorial, we will learn how to save a view in SolidWorks using a few simple steps.

Step 1: Adjusting the View

Before saving a view, make sure your model is displayed exactly as you want it. Use the navigation tools such as pan, zoom, and rotate to position the model according to your desired view. You can also adjust the display settings like shading, edge display, and transparency if needed.

Tip:

If you want to focus on a specific area or component of your model, use the section view or hide/unhide features to isolate the desired portion.

Step 2: Saving the View

To save the current view in SolidWorks, follow these steps:

  1. Select the View Orientation tool from the toolbar or go to View > Modify > Save View. The “Save Current View” dialog box will appear.
  2. In the dialog box, enter a Name for your saved view. Choose something descriptive that will help you identify it later.
  3. Select whether you want this saved view to be available only for this document or for all future documents by checking/unchecking the “Apply to all documents” option.
  4. (Optional) If you have multiple configurations in your model, choose which configuration(s) you want this saved view associated with from the drop-down list.
  5. (Optional) You can also specify a Camera Orientation to save the current camera position along with the view orientation.
  6. (Optional) If you want to associate a keyboard shortcut with this saved view, click on the Keyboard Shortcut button and assign a key combination.
  7. Click OK to save the view.

Note:

If you want to modify or delete a saved view later, go to View > Modify > Show/Hide > Saved Views. From there, you can manage your saved views accordingly.

Step 3: Recalling the Saved View

To recall a saved view in SolidWorks, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Saved Views tool from the toolbar or go to View > Modify > Show/Hide > Saved Views. The “Saved Views” dialog box will open.
  2. In the dialog box, you will see a list of all your saved views. Select the desired view by clicking on its name.
  3. (Optional) If you associated a keyboard shortcut with the saved view, you can also use that shortcut to quickly recall it.
  4. (Optional) You can choose whether you want to restore only the view orientation or both the view and camera orientation by checking/unchecking the “Restore Camera View” option.
  5. Select OK.

Note:

If you have multiple documents open in SolidWorks and want to apply a saved view to a specific document, make sure that document is active before recalling the saved view.
